A lot of people ask, "What do I do with my old Computer once I do not need it any longer?". I have started a Computer Recycling Program. Simply throwing your computer in the trash is Bad for the environment as well as insecure. Computers contain small batteries inside, as well as many components and chemicals which make up your systems components.
Did you know that if you have a Business, you are liable by law to dispose of your devices in a recycling manner? You can be fined heavily if your are caught not complying with the laws. Soon, even individuals will be held to this same law.
What do I do with the computers I recycle?
I strip them down and recycle the components the proper way. All _meta_l goes to a metal recycler, all batteries go to a Battery recycler, all Chemical containing components go to proper hazmat based recyclers. Any devices that can be re-used will go to building computers for donation to the needy, or for sale and a portion of the proceeds go to various charities. Also, your data on your hard drive(s) will be securely erased using the same technology the U.S. Government Department Of Defense (DOD) Uses. This way You know no one will see your sensitive information.
This has been a long time goal of Shaun's Computers. I believe that we should do all we can to protect our environment and give back to the community in any way we can, big or small.
